1. What is the difference between the tours? 2. Which tour is the "best" tour?
Depending upon what your interests are and who you have coming with you on the tour, there is plenty to choose from. If you are interested in a tour of ghost stories, “The Original reykjavik Haunted Walk” is a good place to start. If you are interested in historical tours, we have some other terrific options in other Icelandic sites. See (Reykjavik Tours) for individual tour descriptions and schedules to find out all of your options!
Basic Tour Questions:
1. How long are the tours? 2. How far do you walk on the tours? 3. Do you go inside any buildings? 4. Are the tours wheelchair accessible?
Reykjavik Tour: The Original Haunted Walk of Reykjavik. Duration: 90 min. Distance: Approx. 2 kms. Indoor/Outdoor: Completely outdoors, dress for the weather. Accessibility: Wheelchair accessible with assistance. Notes: Reasonable duration for all levels of fitness.
Reykjavik Tour: The Naughty Reykjavik Pub Walk. Duration: 2 ½ hours (includes 2 pub stops). Distance: Approx. 1.7 kms. Indoor/Outdoor: Partially outdoors, partially indoors. Accessibility: A few flights of stairs along this tour. May be adapted to be wheelchair accessible with advance notice. Please call ahead. Notes: Reasonable distance and duration.
5. Where do you get the information for your tours? 6. Where do you find your ghost stories?
All of the research for
our tour is done through Local and National Archives, old newspapers, books
and through interviews.
Most of them have come through actually interviewing and speaking to all of the people involved in the hauntings (those who are still in the land of the living of course). You can rest assured that we have done our homework, and we leave it up to you to decide which ghost stories you will choose to believe.
7. Are we going to see any ghosts on the tour? 8. Will anyone jump out of the bushes or startle us on the tour?
We don’t have anyone
waiting in the bushes to jump out and scare you during our ghost tours.
Although this is done on some other tours, we don't do this. We prefer to
get you involved in the stories through the atmosphere we present, and to
give you enough evidence and proof of each haunting that you will have
plenty to think about when you get home to your bed.
So keep your eyes open,
and be sure to tell your Tour Guide if anything spooky happens during the
tour.
On Halloween, mind you, anything goes, so don't get too comfortable!
9. Do your guides dress up in historic costume?
On our ghost tours, the
tour guides dress in black cloaks, and carry lanterns on the tour, so you
will definitely recognize us. 10. Is this a good "family" activity? 11. Are the tours appropriate for children? The Original Haunted Walk in Reykjavik, is an activity that the whole family will enjoy. It is appropriate for all ages, and not just "geared towards kids".
Many of our fans are in fact children!
The history on the tour
may be too difficult to understand for very young children. Unless your
child is prone to nightmares, you will probably find that they are less
frightened by the stories on the tour than most of the adults!
12. Are there any tours just for adults? The "Naughty Reykjavik Pub Walk" is a great tour if you want to have a fun night out on the town in Reykjavik. Weaving your way through the downtown area, your tour guide will recount all of the humourous and scandalous stories that most historical tours leave out!
This tour is for adults only, because of the content of the tour and because it enters pubs where the age restriction is 19+.
13. Do we need reservations?
Reservations are
strongly recommended for all of our public tours, as there are a limited
number of spaces available on each tour. Private tours must be booked in
advance.
14. What are the advantages of booking a private tour? Private tours are available year-round, in English or German. You can choose to book any of our tours, at a start time that is convenient for your group (subject to the availability of tour guides). With a private tour, your group has a guide all to yourself, and has the flexibility to customize the tour to suit the needs of your group. See (Private Tour Information)
15. What happens if it is raining the day of the tour? All of tours will go rain or shine or snow. Please dress appropriately for the weather, whatever it may be. In extreme weather circumstances, The Reykjavik Haunted Walk reserves the right to cancel the tour for the safety of participants.
If you have any questions, please call the day of your tour: Reykjavik +354 843 6666.
16. Where’s the bus? All of our public tours are walking tours. They are environmentally friendly and you get a chance to see the city the way it was meant to be seen – up close and on foot.
17. Can we stay at a haunted hotel? 18. Are there any haunted restaurants? There are quite a few options in Reykjavik.
